About the Project
Get to Know The project
As Colombia faces escalating climate challenges, including increased rainfall and extreme weather events, urban areas are becoming increasingly vulnerable. Our project aims to address these challenges by integrating Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) into public space design across three key cities: Bogotá, Bucaramanga, and Cartagena. By assessing the potential for NBS adoption and enhancing urban water management practices, we seek to improve resilience and sustainability in these diverse urban environments.
Goals and Objectives
Our initiative focuses on transforming public spaces to better manage urban water cycles and adapt to climate change. In Colombia, where current public space design standards often overlook rainwater management, integrating NBS can offer significant benefits. This project aims to:
Our Approach
We employ a comprehensive approach to assess and implement NBS in urban public spaces:

-
Stakeholder Engagement: Conduct surveys and gather insights from city planners, water companies, and communities.

-
Water Balance Modeling: Use advanced tools like Aquacycle to analyze water flows.

-
Suitability Analysis: Apply SSANTO software to identify optimal locations for NBS.

-
Site Selection: Choose representative sites for implementing and testing NBS solutions.

-
Visualization: Develop visual representations of retrofitted public spaces to guide future implementations.
Exploring Our Case Studies
Our research focuses on three cities, each representing different urban contexts and water management challenges:
Bogotá
A high-altitude capital with a growing need for sustainable water management solutions
Bucaramanga
A mid-mountain city facing challenges in integrating modern drainage systems.
Cartagena:
